Ancient Greek gê morphḗ refers to earth form. The 3D "Metamorphic" and "Moraine" paintings mimic geological processes that shape the surface of the earth. In the process of creation, I tear, recombine, reshape the paper landscapes. By introducing elements of geometry, I suggest the presence of mathematics, physics and ordered design. The mathematical patterns observed in both nature and in the human biological make up, suggest the inextricable ties we have to the earth and its landscapes.
Exposures is a series capturing time. Each paint spill is an event lasting approximately thirty seconds. Akin to a photographic exposure, these spills capture moments past. While this can be met with a sense of melancholy, sometimes nostalgia is colorful and vibrant, reminiscent of the colorful splashes of life.
Music is often a part of my process. These drawings Red Sound and Blue Sound are visual compositions of the perception of sound.
Conversations plays with visual representation of thirty second strands of speech that have been recorded, analyzed with a spectrogram, and depicted geometrically in three dimensions. The color changes correspond to frequency changes. The strands depict the energy behind the spoken sound.
